GSM stands for grams per square metre. It's the weight of a fabric: cut out one square metre and weigh it. The higher the number, the heavier and denser the fabric.
It's the quickest way to tell a heavyweight piece from a thin one before it arrives, which is why VORIX Clothing (VØRIX) lists the GSM on every product.
Rough GSM ranges
There's no official standard, but most brands use roughly these bands:
- T-shirts: around 150 to 180 GSM is lightweight. Around 220 GSM and up is usually called heavyweight.
- Hoodies and sweats: around 250 to 300 GSM is light to midweight. Around 350 GSM and up is heavyweight.
The weights in VORIX Series 001
- 275 GSM T-shirts. 100% cotton with a boxy, drop-shoulder fit and a mineral wash. See the oversized T-shirts.
- 355 GSM hoodies. 53% polyester, 42% cotton and 5% other fibres, cut oversized with a snow-washed black finish that wears as a soft charcoal. See the heavyweight hoodies.
- 390 GSM sweatpants. Fleece-backed, with a relaxed barrel leg, front pleats and a vintage wash. See the heavyweight sweatpants.
Why heavyweight fabric is worth it
- Shape. Heavier fabric holds its structure, so an oversized fit drapes instead of collapsing.
- Feel. Dense fabric feels substantial and keeps you warmer.
- Coverage. A heavyweight tee won't turn see-through the way a thin one can.
- Wear. Thicker fabric generally handles repeated washing better.
GSM isn't everything
Weight tells you how dense a fabric is, not how it's finished. The fibre blend, the wash and the construction all change how a piece feels. Every Series 001 piece is washed, so it feels broken-in from the first wear.
How to keep heavyweight pieces looking right
- Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle, inside out.
- Tumble dry low and don't bleach.
- Iron on low heat and avoid direct heat on graphics.
- Don't dry clean.
Series 001 opens on 1 December 2026 at 8 PM AEDT. See all nine pieces in the Series 001 collection, or check the drop time in your city.
